HIP adheres to the core values of Rotary International 4-Way Test and the Seven Anishinaabek Grandfather Teachings. We believe:

1. Service

We believe that service activities and programs bring about greater understanding and peace. Service is a major component of our mission. By working together with our partners we will create a culture of service.

2. Integrity

We are committed to and expect accountability and transparency from all of our members, both in our efforts and in the processes we use to accomplish our goals. We adhere to high ethical and professional standards in our work and personal relationships. We are fair and respectful of all others in our interactions with everyone and we prudently steward the resources entrusted to us.

3. Diversity

We encourage diversity within our membership and all members will be treated with respect and dignity regardless of their role.

4. Leadership

We believe in the importance of understanding leadership development and empowerment of indigenous people. Adhering to our core values is in itself a form of leadership.

5. Collaboration

We foster partnerships and collaboration amongst Rotary Clubs, Rotarians, indigenous peoples and their communities and other groups to help fulfill our mission.

6. Sustainability

Programs are to be designed to be sustainable, owned by the indigenous community and with the indigenous community not becoming dependent upon Rotary to provide for continual funding and support.

7. 4-Way Test

Of the things we think, say or do:

  1. Is it the TRUTH?
  2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
  3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
  4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
